Last Thursday, two of our students got to experience one of ChiTech’s core concepts in a big, big way. Imagine the empowering effect of speaking to the minds behind Groupon, Microsoft, and the rest of Chicago’s most innovative companies at age 13 or 15. Consider this note, handwritten by a 10th grader after the event:
“CityLIGHTS is an inspiring event. The fact that the ITA considers the students to be more than students, or rather potential partners, is remarkable. It made me feel like I was more than just an asset of the school, I feel like I am a head of my own corporation.”
Tech professionals are needed to challenge students, collaborate with them, and ultimately bring the finish line to life for those that aim high and stay disciplined.
If you attended CityLIGHTS, we want to say thank you. Help us make interaction with technology professionals an ongoing part of students’ lives.
Start by learning what we’re all about:
Become a mentor.
Aiming high is half the battle for our students; low expectations permeate their lives. Help them study, take them to a game, or bat around new business ideas. Becoming part of our Generation Tech mentoring program makes them feel like they’re worth it.
Partner.
Demo new technology, present a case study, provide a week-long micro-internship—the sky’s the limit when it comes to collaborating with teachers to integrate creativity and critical thinking into our classrooms. Help develop or facilitate these opportunities.
Donate.
As a CPS contract school, we use the money we receive to fund basic high school programs like math and English. We rely on the generosity of the tech community to help us provide a unique, transformative experience that will accelerate student growth and ensure rewarding careers.
